We
spread comfort and safety in society. |

We
have contributed to improvements
in the disaster prevention and security fields
in the academic area and its applications. |

Our commitment
to disaster prevention and security started with the development
of an earthquake information processing system. We succeeded in
computerizing academic data about the occurrence of an earthquake
for the first time in Japan by jointly cooperating with the University
of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute, in which even weak earth
tremors human bodies do not feel and changes in the seabed, volcanoes,
groundwater, and geomagnetism are precisely recorded for the analysis
of seismic mechanism. Our seismic analyzers are installed in several
thousand places all around Japan. Moreover, our fields have expanded
to the application of disaster prevention systems such as the river
information management system and the tsunami information system
and to medical information security with the active use of communication,
data transmission, and image data processing technologies. We are
contributing to the improvement of a social environment in which
we can live more safely and comfortably and to the realization of
a safe information network society. |

| Prevention of disasters caused
by an earthquake |
 |
| In 1990, we developed the
world's first automatic seismic intensity analyzer. The instruments,
authorized by the Japan Meteorological Agency, have been delivered
to a few thousand places including the agency, disaster prevention
research institutes, the Fire Defense Agency, local governments,
broadcasting stations, nuclear power plants, and dam management
offices. Also, we are developing seismic intensity information
network systems to centrally control seismic information based
on data sent from these networked instruments. |

 |
| River Management |
 |
| We have developed a telemeter
system to collect data regarding river management such as
the amount of precipitation, waterlevel, the quantity of water
in dams, and water quality; a river information management
systemto analyze and control the data for managing a river,
and create displays on a web page; anda system to issue a
warning when water is discharged from a dam. |

| PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) |
 |
| This consists of certification
with a multi-application IC card and its agency. We have realized
a cross certificating function with a public key and a function
to resend a cryptographic key by storing the X.509 certificate
in an IC card in accordance with the "ISCL Standard", a security
communication standard for medical use recommended by the
Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Ministry of
Economy, Trade and Industry. With these functions, data are
perfectly protected with the public key using a system in
which a standard browser and a web server are used and a secure
channel layer is established. The certification authority
examines and confirms the qualification of an applicant, and
then delivers the IC card storing the "key" and "certificate"
to him or her. |
